Pres. Kim Orders to Clean Up Corruption

Frustrated with the report by the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) that exposed the financial irregularies at 'Nonghyup', the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation(NACF), President Kim Dae Jung ordered a cleanup of the corruption and inefficiency in government and public institutes.
Chong Wa Dae Spokesman, Park Jie Won, said on February 26, 'The president ordered firm countermeasures to thoroughly expose the 'Nonghyup Scandal' in order not to disappoint the nation, especially farmers.'
He said, 'The government did its best to overcome the economic crisis last year, but this year the government will make every effot to clean up the corruption in the government and public instititutes.'
He added, 'Nonghyup is a financial institution that is supervised not by the Financial Supervisory Commision(FSC) but by the Ministry of Agriculture anf Forestry, thus the government will revise this arrangement if necessary.'
He further stated, 'Public institutions not supervised or controlled by the BAI or the National Assembly have a multitude of problems, so the government will mobilize every means to clean up the corruption.'
