Kim Vows to End Regional Discrimination
President Kim Dae Jung stated, on March 1, that he would enact a law to prohibit reigional discrimination, as one method in the government's resolute campaign to end Korea's regional antipathies.In an interview held with two provincial newspapers, the Kyungnam Daily and Chungcheong Ilbo, he said, 'The government will make various institutional efforts like establishing a law to end reginal discrimination, and promoting the current region-limited parties into becoming nationwide parties.
In response to criticism on the Mt. Kumkang tour operation, he pointed out that an aggressive approach towards North Korea may place North-South relations in danger, and we should not lose sight of the fact that the most important consideration is to prevent the reoccurrence of war on the Korean Peninsula.
