USTR Seriously Concerned About Korean-Made Steel

Richard Fisher, deputy United States trade representative(USTR), on March 4, visited in sucession Commerce, Industry and Energy Minister Park Tae Young, and Han Duk Soo, head of trade and commerce at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
This is his second visit to Korea this year to express America's serious concerns about the increase of Korean steel exports to the United States. He requested the Korean government to take firm measures.
Fisher stated, 'As this year Korea's steel exports to the United States are sharply increasing, the matter of steel is fast becoming a serious political issue in the United States.'
He suggested that both South Korea and the U.S. try to mitigate the inevitable protective moves of the U.S. Congress.
On this point, the Korean government decided to cooperate closely with the U.S. at the governmental level in order to prevent the steel matter from escalating into a full-scale trade war.
