Yonsei University to Employ Professors Under Contract

Yonsei University released, on March 29, its revised proposal on its plan to employ all professors, excluding scholars with significant experience and renown already employed, on a constract basis and according to an annual pay system beginning this year.
Yonsei University also is going to place a limit on the ratio of professors, both tenured and contracted, who graduated from Yonsei University. The number of those professors can not exceed 50 percent.
In addition, the university decided to give priority to employing professors from faculties or colleges that produce excellent scholarly achievment, and extending the hiring of woman and foreign professors.
Newly employed professors will only be granted tenure based on their achievement. Associate professors will be able to apply for tenure after three years and assistant professors will have to work for the university for four years.
The revised plan is scheduled to be finally concluded and ratified by Yonsei's board of university affairs on April 1.
