Korea is Worst Business Partner

The United States Trade Representative(USTR) on April 2 admonished Korea for being one of the most difficult countries to conduct business activity with, even though it is a major trading partner.
USTR revealed in its 1999 international trade report the reasons for this criticism. Highlights included 10 sections on restrictions and prohibitive policies in regards to communications. The report also cited the screen quota system as being a hurdle for improved business relations in it's twenty page report. It emphasized, 'In the future we need to push offensive strategy in U.S.-Korea trade relationships such as the automobile agreement signed last October.'
Furthermore, it stressed that there is strong resistance towards beef imports. Additional concerns include airport construction and open bidding on other construction projects.
Even though the report was tough on policy in general it praised Kim Dae Jung's administration's efforts to achieve an open door policy.
