SNU Students Select Non-Movement President

A student not involved in the student movement has been selected as the Seoul National University (SNU) student association president for the first time.
The SNU student association announced on December 3 that Huh Min, 23, a senior at a natural sciences college was selected as the president of the student association with 4,957 votes, while his competitor Ryu Joo-hyung, 22, at law college, the candidate put up by the student movement, obtained 4,873 votes in the election, which took place from November 29 to December 2.
Huh is the first president of the SNU student association who was not a candidate from the student movement, since student presidential elections were reintroduced in 1984.
During the electioneering period, Huh and his running mate Kang Je-wook performed a hip-hop dance while using audio-video devices.
Huh promised to organize a 'cultural network' which will connect university festivals throughout the country.
The newly-appointed president said, 'I thank the 'silent' voters. I will listen to all kinds of voices on campus.'
