Koreans Bet on Candidates

With the general election just one day away, everyone is betting on who will win in the more hotly contested districts.

In one election district in South Cholla Province, Mr .Choi (a manager of a Karaoke bar) bet Mr. Lee (a manager of a nearby bar) 100,000 won ($87) that his candidate would win the election.

In Jung-gu, Seoul candidate Park Sung-bum (Grand National Party) and candidate Chung Dai-chul (Millennium Democratic Party) are in a tight race. Mrs. Lee, a housewife, bet the price of her lunch with ten neighbors as to which candidate will win.

Many people are placing bets as to whether certain blacklisted candidates will win in their districts. Mr. Kim, an employee of a local company, said, "One of my fellow workers said that he didn't think CAGE's blacklist would influence this year's election results."
