Civic Groups Call This Election a Triumph for Voters

The 'Citizen's Alliance for the 2000 General Elections' or CAGE calls this election a triumph for voters, noting more than half of the 86 'unfit' candidates who were blacklisted due to allegations of corruption and bribery were not elected due in part to CAGE campaigns against these candidates.

CAGE accounts for these results as the voters' strong desire for reform in politics and a generational shift in the political arena. It also wants politicians to swiftly and decisively reform the state of politics as of the convening of the newly elected 16th Congress.

The civic group also underscores the success of the various civic groups and their 'blacklist' campaign to which regional antagoniam has usually catered rather than any other more mitigating factors especially in the ancient rivalries between the Chungchong, Cholla and Kyongsang regions. It also highlighted that regionalsim, a chronic condition in the nation's political history, seems to be on the wane.
