Gov't Is Supportive of 5-day Work Week

"The Government is supportive of the 5-day work week," said President Kim Dae-jung on May 30.

President Kim stated his belief after receiving this request from laboror forces, emphasizing that, "We, the government, have protected the rights of the labor force and will do so forevermore."

In addition, the president remarked on the problems of a cabinet reshuffle saying, "Actually, many people talked about a cabinet shake-up, but I haven't thought of this as a problem. According to precedent, cabinet members have sometimes been nominated at the acting prime minister's request. But, as we demand the national assemly's assent for the confirmation of the acting prime minister to the position of prime minister, a cabinet shake-up would not be correct, as a matter of courtesy to the national assembly."
