President Calls Food Poisoning an Inhumane Act

Following a string of food contamination scares; including cases of lead-contaminated crabs imported from China, foods tainted with carcinogenic ingredients, and sesame oil mixed with water and sulfuric acid, President Kim has called for harsh punishments to be meted out to those responsible for the sale or distibution of tainted foods.

President Kim made the statement at a ministerial meeting that he presided over on Monday and ordered ministers participating in the meeting to establish measures to deal with the crisis.

President Kim also commented on the ongoing medical strike stating that, "I am inclined to listen to what both sides - doctors and pharmacists - have to say about their positions, but I will not tolerate any demand made soley in an attempt to improve their own welfare while putting human life at stake."
