Study 'Task Force' From U.S. to Visit

An eight-member Korea watchers group of the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations will visit Seoul for three days, starting Feb. 25, to gather information and opinions on Seoul-Washington relations and policy toward North Korea for use by the Bush administration.

The Korea Task Force Team, as it is known, will be led by Morton Abramowitz, a former assistant secretary of state, and James Laney, a former U.S. ambassador to Seoul.

"The group, comprising mainly Korea experts of the Republican Party, will be meeting with Defense Minister Cho Seong-tae," the South Korean Defense Ministry announced on Sunday.

The group will also make a protocol visit to President Kim Dae-jung.
