Kim Jong-pil Taking Message to Tokyo
Kim Jong-pil, leader of the ruling coalition partner United Liberal Democrats, will visit Japan Wednesday to deliver to Japanese leaders a message from the Korean government on historical distortions in textbooks.
Mr. Kim is scheduled to meet with such high-profile Japanese leaders as the former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, the current Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori and the Foreign Minister Yohei Kono. An official from the United Liberal Democrats said Mr. Kim's visit had been arranged at the urging of President Kim Dae-jung during their meeting last Friday. He added that Kim Jong-pil is the man with the most extensive personal network in Japan.
The Yomiuri daily newspaper reported Monday that the Japanese Education Ministry will approve the controversial textbooks on March 15.
