Interest Is Dwindling In Last Cell License
The likelihood that a strong licensee for the code division multiple access 2000 mobile phone standard will emerge is shrinking. The two main candidates have drastically reduced their promotion teams.LG Electronics, leading the LG Glocom consortium, will disband its IMT-2000 promotion team, industry sources said Thursday. LG failed last year to win a W-CDMA standard license, and subsequently declared that it would not try for the remaining cdma2000 license.
After falling below minimum government standards in its initial try for the cdma2000 license, Hanaro Telecom is preparing to reapply. But it downsized its promotional staff from 70 to 10 persons after the government said a month ago that the selection of the licensee would be indefinitely delayed.
