Training with Japan A Casualty of Text
The South Korean government is looking into delaying joint maritime search and rescue training with Japan in another move to show its displeasure over a history textbook approved for use in Japanese schools."We believe it inappropriate to hold military cooperation with Japan amid rising anti-Japanese sentiment," a Defense Ministry official said Wednesday. "We plan to delay the training indefinitely and also postpone a visit by a Joint Chiefs of Staff official to Japan that was set in the first half of the year."
Korea is also expected to transmit a letter urging revision of the textbook, signed by Foreign Minister Han Seung-soo, through Ambassador Choi Sang-yong, who will return to Tokyo on Thursday, more than a week after he was recalled.
