Foreign Consultants Do Well
Foreign management consulting companies operating in Korea reaped a total of 649 billion won ($499.2 million) in revenues between 1997 and 2000. According to the documents the National Tax Service submitted Wednesday to Representative Yoon Young-tak of the opposition Grand National Party, the consulting companies' revenues slightly decreased to 118.8 billion won in 1998 from 122.4 billion won in 1997 but then increased to 192.6 billion won in 1999 and 215.3 billion won in 2000.The number of foreign consulting companies operating in Korea are also increasing from 36 in 1997 to 60 in 2000. The amount of taxes they paid amounted to 3.1 billion won last year, but in 1998 the figure was only 200 million won.
