U.S. Envoy Disputed On Trafficking Policy
Evans Revere, the acting United States ambassador to Seoul, said Thursday that the Korean government had recently notified him that it would undertake measures to deal with the problems pointed out in the State Department's Trafficking in Persons Report. He spoke at a breakfast meeting of Korean-American Association. He was immediately contradicted by the Korean government, which stated that it had said nothing on the matter to Mr. Evans. A government spokesman said Korea had demanded that the United States revise the report to reflect the Korean situation accurately.
The State Department report listed South Korea as one of 23 countries with a poor record. It cited Korea as a country of origin and transit for human trafficking.
