Bush Says U.S. Will Stay After Reunion
WASHINGTON - U.S. President George W. Bush affirmed Tuesday in an interview with Asian editors that the he does not intend to diminish U.S. presence in Korea even after North and South Korea are reunited."North Korea should not in any way, shape or form think that because we happen to be engaged in Afghanistan we will not be prepared and ready to fulfill our end of our agreement with the South Korean government," Mr. Bush emphasized. "They should not use this as an opportunity to threaten our close friend and ally, South Korea." He also questioned whether Pyeongyang was willing to meet with South Korean or U.S. officials.
Mr. Bush is scheduled to meet with South Korean President Kim Dae-jung during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Shanghai Friday.
