North blasts report on religion freedom

North Korea blasted Washington on Friday for listing it as one of the states that suppress religious freedom.

The U.S. Department of State this week released an annual report, listing China, Vietnam, North Korea, Burma, Cuba and Laos as states involved in "suppression of religious activities."

A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman called the report groundless. "The freedom of religious belief and religious activities is fully guaranteed by the law of North Korea," he said through the North's state-run Central News Agency.

He called Washington's assessment "an undisguised and shameful interference in the internal affairs of North Korea," and "a product of the hostile policy pursued by the Bush administration against Pyeongyang."
