Fuel block was cause of fighter jet accident
The South Korean Air Force said Friday that poor maintenance was the cause of a fighter jet crash last month. An F-16D aircraft crashed in Sangju, North Gyeongsang province. The air force said the fuel supply to the jet's engine was blocked and that Samsung Techwin Co. was responsible for faulty system maintenance. The company is in charge of engine maintenance.
"We will reinforce maintenance procedures to prevent similar accidents," the air force announced.
Another fighter jet, an aging F-4, crashed early this month, in North Jeolla province. Military authorities said an engine fire was the cause. "We are investigating the case with the American engine maker," the air force said. Like the F-16 fleet, all F-4s are currently grounded while the accidents are being investigated.
