North crows at defeat of conservative Lee
North Korea reacted relatively quickly to Roh Moo-hyun's election victory, only two days after the Millennium Democratic Party candidate defeated the North's nemesis, Lee Hoi-chang of the Grand National Party.Radio Pyeongyang carried a succinct report on the election Saturday. "There was a presidential election in the South on Thursday," the report said. "Roh Moo-hyun of the Millennium Democratic Party won and Lee Hoi-chang of the Grand National Party lost."
The report said the result proved that anyone who opposed the spirit of the June 15, 2000, summit in Pyeongyang and worked against North Korea "would not be able to escape crushing defeat."
Pyeongyang reported President Kim Dae-jung's win in 1997 three days after the election, quoting foreign news reports.
