Roh team gets student tech advice

The student body of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has made a number of proposals to the Presidential Transition Committee on its science and technology policies. Yesterday, the students asked the transition team to set up a "student committee" under the president's National Science and Technology Council. The subcommittee would be a medium through which the views of science and engineering students nationwide could be delivered directly to the government, the students said. They also proposed that the government reform the education system to focus science and engineering education on vocational concerns and not on academic majors. The students also wanted a "hub" science library to be established and the drafting of a reeducation program for scientific researchers. "We plan to discuss with students who study science or engineering at other universities a system to make suggestions and keep a close eye on government policies," said Jeong Wu-seong, who heads the institute's student body. The proposals were made based on the discussions of 15 school representatives and online suggestions by other students at the university. by Shim Jae-woo
