Samsung unveils fastest CPU
Samsung Electronics Co. announced yesterday that it has developed the world’s fastest central processing unit, or CPU, for mobile phones. The new microprocessor, with a speed of 533 megahertz, will mean better three-dimensional graphics and animation for personal digital assistants, and “smart phones.” Previously, the fastest mobile CPU had been an Intel Corp. product with a speed of 520 megahertz. CPUs for mobile phones are considered a promising “next generation” electronics product by industry observers. “Our new microprocessor is the world’s best in speed and battery efficiency. We expect it to dominate the CPU market for advanced mobile phones,” said Lee Yun-tae, director of the mobile CPU development team at Samsung.
