LG Electronics sued by firm in U.S.

Silicon Graphics Inc., a maker of high-performance computers, servers, storage devices and modeling software, sued LG Electronics Inc., asking for a court ruling that it isn’t infringing six of LG’s U.S. patents. LG has claimed that Silicon Graphics owes it at least $75 million for using the six disputed patents and two expired patents without permission, court papers show. The disputed innovations relate to computer networking, electronic data storage and memory access systems. Silicon Graphics sued in federal court in San Francisco asking for a ruling that it isn’t infringing the patents and for an order blocking LG from “interfering with or threatening to interfere with the manufacture, sale, license or use of SGI’s products.” Silicon Graphics is also asking for an order declaring that LG’s patents are invalid. Silicon Graphics is now in Chapter 11. It has agreed with LG to put LG’s patent-infringement claims on hold until after the bankruptcy-exit plan takes effect, court papers show.
