Korea may soon get its own Universal Studios theme park, the company’s second in Asia. Thomas L. Williams, chairman and chief executive of Universal Parks & Resorts, an arm of the the film company, will visit Korea to hold a press briefing on Tuesday about the plan, PR One, a Korean public relations agency, said yesterday on behalf of the company.
Mr. Williams will unveil a proposed site for the theme park, probably in Ansan, Gyeonggi province, during the briefing, Yonhap reported. PR One said Universal is still looking at several possible sites.
PR One also said Mr. Williams has asked for meetings with senior government officials to discuss the investment plan.
The Finance Ministry’s Free Economic Zone Planning Office said its officials had not received any requests from Mr. Williams.
In 2004, the Incheon free economic zone had initial talks with Universal to attract an amusement park but the talks ended with no deal.
Universal operates theme parks in Orlando and Los Angeles of the United States and Osaka , Japan.
