Dennis Hwang, the chief webmaster at Google

Google Inc., the world’s largest Internet company, will recruit Korean webmasters in a bid to strengthen its foothold in the Asian market, a company official said yesterday. It would be the first Asian Google webmaster team.
“Google is working on finding programmers who can reflect the Korean culture in managing the search engine of the Korean Web site of Google,” said Dennis Hwang, chief webmaster at the world’s most visited search engine.
“I came here to build a webmaster team for Korea that can understand and reflect Korean culture,” he told reporters in a press conference in central Seoul.
Hwang, a 29-year-old Korean-American engineer, has worked at Google for the past seven years as chief webmaster.
Hwang runs Google’s search sites for around 100 countries. He is especially known in Korea for designing a Google logo to mark Korea’s Independence Day in 2001 that he decorated with the country’s national flag, flower and other symbols, making these symbols visible to tens of millions of Internet browsers for a day.
“There are so many competitive engineers here in Korea, and we are looking for workers,” Hwang said.
