North Chungcheong Police holds drivers’ ed courses for foreigners

The North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency has opened a two-month class for foreigners living in the province to obtain driver’s licenses starting this month at Multicultural Family Support centers in the region - the city of Cheongju and counties of Youngdong, Boeun and Jincheon. The program will provide free driver’s license textbooks in English, Chinese and Vietnamese and dispatch translators to give lectures. Opportunities to apply for the written test will be arranged for individuals as well as in groups.

The North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency comments: “These classes are established for those who have had difficulty obtaining driver’s licenses, especially women of international marriages. There has always been a high demand for textbooks in foreign languages with increasing numbers of foreigners wanting to drive due to the inconvenient rural public transportation system.”

Yangsan Police Station in South Gyeongsang is also set to launch a similar service starting from April 11 to May 24. The classes will be conducted for two hours from 3 p.m. every Sunday. Fifty seats for classes in Chinese and 30 seats for classes in Korean will be available on a first come, first served basis.
