Local crafts to debut at European festival
For the event, 19 designers have worked with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF) to present interior items spanning from plates to small furnishings.
“We are trying to make a foundation through this event so that we can continue showing Korean craftwork in the European market and for local designers to further gain recognition in the global market as well,” said the group in a press release.
Park Sun-young, who has participated in the event for two consecutive years, has created a set of china inspired by Joseon era (1392-1910) white porcelain for the convention. She added abstract prints to the clean, white surface to give a modern twist.
The designer now aims to further develop a sales channel after her work in last year’s event led her to begin trading with a retailer in the United States, receiving orders that could take up to a year to complete.
“The event is not only an industrial one where major buyers come, but also a [meeting place for] many from a variety of related industry looking for collaborative work,” according to the press release. “There will be many possibilities [that we can’t currently forecast] and ways to promote craftwork developed in Korea to the world.”
The event will also allow the group to closely monitor the home decor trend among overseas buyers to find new opportunities for Korean designers. They also hope to be inspired by the other designers, collectors and gallery curators.
