Living design a focus of Seoul fair

테스트

The five-day Seoul Living Design Fair, where visitors are able to see the latest trends in interior design as well as purchase a trendy item or two to spice up their home, is starting at COEX in southern Seoul on Wednesday.

This year, the fair is paying attention to the theme “hobby.” About 260 trendy brands will exhibit how visitors can bring their favorite pastimes into their homes in a tasteful way.

Additionally, four design teams were selected for the fair’s “Designer’s Choice” exhibition.

They were asked to focus on the single-person household, which has been rapidly increasing in Korea.

Potter Lee Yoon-shin, the director of porcelain brand Yido, decided to express the single lifestyle through her “Tea Room.”

The artist’s space attempts to bring visitors closer to nature with its grass floor and the sounds of water flowing from teapots.

Lee said she believes taking time out for drinking tea from a treasured cup is truly relaxing for modern people who lead busy lives.

The increase of single-person households in Korea has led to more people investing their time and money in themselves.

Lee Hyuk and Choi Yong-hun, co-founders of architecture, interior and environmental design agency Studio OL, suggested the “Home Atelier” concept as the ideal way for single people to live.

Here, visitors can handcraft books and fill them with their own stories.

There is also an “Audio Room,” by interior designer Park Hyung-won. Park said that he chose to focus on listening to music as this is many people’s favorite hobby.

“Audio Room” is, in fact, a reproduction of his own studio. He uses old audio systems that were used in German cinemas during the early 1900s to emit sounds.

He explained that he believes he can soothe the hearts of visitors through the music in his room.

Lastly, there’s Simone Carera and Marco Bruno’s “Game Room.”

The two Motoelastico architects used dotjari, the Korean version of a picnic mat, to express the idea that home can be a private area but also a space that connects you to the outside world.

The fair runs from Wednesday to Sunday at COEX’s halls A and B in southern Seoul.

The venue opens from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Regular admission is 10,000 won ($9.04), or 8,000 won for buyers.
