Cabinet promotes generals

Seven generals were appointed to new jobs by the cabinet yesterday.
General Lee Sang-hee, 60, was named as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Kim Jang-soo, 57, who was deputy commander of the Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command, is now army chief of staff, replacing General Nam Jae-joon.
Vice Admiral Nam Hae-il, 58, was named as chief of naval operations. Lieutenant General Lee Hee-won, 57, was promoted to deputy commander of the Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command. Lieutenant General Kim Byung-kwan, 57, was named as commander of the 1st ROK Army. Lieutenant General Kwon Young-ki, 58, became commander of the 2nd ROK Army while Lieutenant General Kim Kwan-jin, 56, will lead the 3rd ROK Army.
