Speed skater suspended for punching team member

The Korea Skating Union (KSU) on Monday suspended short-track speed skater Sin Da-woon, 22, for the 2015/16 season after he assaulted another member of the national team during training in September.

The KSU athlete committee initially handed a warning to Sin, who punched Kim Han-wool in the face on Sept. 16, and recommended further punishment.

Since Sin can’t compete in the international competitions, the KSU said that it selected Kim Joon-chun as his replacement.

Sin won three gold medals in the 2013 World Short Track Speed Skating Championship and participated in the Sochi Winter Games last year.

Top Korean golfers set to compete in new tourney

Top Korean golfers in the U.S. LPGA Tour and local-based golfers will go head-to-head on separate teams next month following the creation of a new tournament.

Local broadcasting channel MBC and ING Life Insurance Champions on Monday signed a sponsorship deal for the ING Life Champions
Trophy.

The event will be held at Bayside Golf Club in Busan from Nov. 27 with a total purse of 1 billion won.

The event will feature a total of 24 golfers. The top 10 golfers from the KLPGA Tour and top 10 Korean golfers in the LPGA Tour will be selected based on their prize money rankings and each team can have two additional players by recommendation.

The event will have a format similar to the Presidents Cup or Solheim Cup, featuring four-ball and four-some matches as well as single match plays.

Though a KLPGA Tour sanctioned event, it will not be officially recognized because the number of participants is too small.

Organizers said world No. 1 Park In-bee, Ryu So-yeon, Kim Sei-young will play the event.

Third inning home runs seal Blue Jays victory over Royals

TORONTO - Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson each homered in a six-run third inning as Toronto enjoyed a 11-8 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night that trimmed the Blue Jays’ deficit to 2-1 in the American League Championship Series

Ryan Goins also homered and had a two-run single after his misplayed pop fly set off Kansas City’s winning rally on Sunday.

The resilient Royals tried to come back, scoring four runs in the ninth before Roberto Osuna closed it out.
