“Out of Place” is an exhibition held inside the KF Gallery in central Seoul, celebrating 60 years of relations with Thailand. [KOREA FOUNDATION]

To celebrate the 60th year of Korea-Thailand diplomatic relations, the Korea Foundation has put together “Out of Place,” an art exhibition featuring eight artists from Korea and Thailand.

Running until Nov. 9 at the KF Gallery in central Seoul, works by the Moojin Brothers, Park Kyung-ryul, Park Hye-min, Taiki Sakpisit, Patipat Chaiwitesh, Dow Wasiksiri, Isarakran Yingyong and Ruangsak Anuwatwimon illustrate how an individual’s personal experience is expressed when it comes in contact with society. Using mediums as diverse as video, installations and paintings, the exhibition is a look into how artists living in two very different countries come together under the universal language of art.

“Out of Place” is a part of the “KF Global Bridge II - Sabai Sabai” program, which is a collective of different cultural events that include a Thai ballet performance on Oct. 10, and movie screening nights on Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and 14. The different events are a chance for Seoulites to experience a Thai culture that does not frequently come across in their everyday lives.

The ballet will feature choreographer and ballerina Ronnarong Khampha, and the movie will be the rom-com “The Teacher’s Diary” (2014). All events are free, but seats for the movie screenings and the ballet performance should be reserved online at www.kf.or.kr.

“The ‘KF Bridge’ is a multi-cultural event that provides a chance for people to experience not only a different culture but also see a segment of a foreign society that they had not known before, through cultural programs like exhibitions, performances and movies,” said an official from the Korea Foundation.

“We will continue our efforts to shed light on countries that had not been introduced in the past.”
