SK Telecom wins big at the Telecom Asia Awards 2019

SK Telecom won seven of 28 award categories in the Telecom Asia Awards 2019, one of Asia’s longest-running awards for the telecommunications industry, the mobile carrier said Tuesday.

Korea’s largest carrier was named the “Best Mobile Carrier” for commercializing the high-speed 5G network, the company said. It also won top awards in the “Most Innovative 5G Use Case” category for applying 5G network at factories. In December, the carrier demonstrated how the next-generation network can speed up and increase efficiency of the product screening process.

The company also won in the “Most Innovative OTT Video Service” category with the Oksusu Social VR, a service that enables up to eight users to meet in a virtual room to watch movies, concerts and sports games together.

Other categories in which the carrier was victorious include “Most Innovative Approach to Analytic” and “Most Innovative Video Service.”

It is the only Korean carrier to win awards in any of the 28 categories, according to SK Telecom.
