Genesis snags top ranking for dependability

Hyundai Motor’s luxury brand Genesis took the top spot in the 2020 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study in its first year eligible for the list, Genesis said Thursday.

The brand ranked first in the overall category with a score of 89, ahead of Lexus with the score of 100, followed by Porsche, Lincoln and BMW. Lower scores correspond to greater customer satisfaction, as the study compiles cases of customer dissatisfaction for calculation.

The Korean luxury brand added that its G80 sedan also placed first among mid-size premium cars for the latest study.

Genesis said the positive study result will help it raise its brand value and see better sales figures in the U.S. market.

The latest vehicle dependability study was conducted on 222 models from 32 auto brands sold in the United States between July 2016 and February 2017. Genesis first entered the North American market in 2017 with the G70 and the G80 sedans, and is preparing to launch the GV80 SUV in the United States.
