Adults-Only Theaters to be Approved in 2000

Cinema theaters for adults only will be approved soon, probably effective from June 2000.
Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil held a cabinet meeting Tuesday and decided to pass a new bill which allows racy films to be given special graded classifications.
These more risque movies will be shown at limited sites, for which which owners will obtain special licenses under presidential codes eventually approved by governors.
If the theater gives entry to teenagers or shows the film out of the licensed location, punishments of up to three years imprisonment or a fine of up to $25,000 can be imposed.
The participants of the meeting also determined to enforce the legislated protection of communications freedom. From now on only the police or the prosecution will be able to obtain approval to carry out surveillance.
