Korea Britannica Releases Pansori CD Series

The Korea Britannica Corp. (President Chang Ho-sang) has released a CD series entitled 'Britannica Pansori'. 'Pansori' refers to traditional Korean narrative songs.

Five pansori pieces and short songs are compacted into 23 CDs and six books, which describe the content of the pieces.

Britannica Pansori includes well-known songs performed by famous pansori artists, including Cho Sang-hyon with 'Chunhyangga' and Han Ae-sun with 'Shimchongga'. Park Pong-sul's 'Heungboga' and 'Sugungga' and Chong Kwon-jin's 'Jokpyokka' are also included on the CD.

Performances by famous Korean traditional drum player Kim Myong-hwan (1913-90) are featured on the CD. Four pansori artists also participated in recording 'tanga' (short songs), which pansori singers use to warm up their voices before performing.

The Korea Britannica Corp. will also hold another series of pansori appreciation concerts after a break of 22 years.
