Korean Broadcasting to Go Digital

At last broadcasting in Korea will been digitized, starting with SBS on August 31. Digital broadcasting will begin for KBS1 and MBCon on September 3.

These broadcasting companies will convert their previously analog programs to digital programs on UHF channels. MBC is designated channel 14, KBS1 channel 15, and SBS channel 16. KBS2 and EBS will have their own channels as well next year.

In order to enjoy the digital broadcasting, you have to buy a digital broadcasting receiver and a UHF antenna, which are very expensive. In the case of an individual house, all you have to do is connect the UHF antenna to the television. However, if you are living in apartment complex, it will be convenient to place one big digital receiver on the top of the apartment, and use it communally.

SBS, KBS1, and MBC now have their digital broadcasting transmitter on Kwanak Mountain, and they are planning to construct some additional transmitters in Namsan next year.
