Musical to Tell Tale of Life in Japanese Prison

The life of Kwon Hee-ro (72) is to be made into a musical. Mr. Kwon spent almost half of his life in prison after killing a man in Japan. The movie ' Kim's War' is a biographical work of the famous man's life.

Chonju city's theater company has received permission from Mr. Kwon to make the musical. The troupe announced on May 22 that script work and practice will begin next month.

The musical has been tentatively titled ' Chosenjing Kwon Hee-ro,' and almost $140,000 will go into the production.

The theater company has invited Mr. Kwon to share his life story with the troupe on May 25. They will hear about Mr. Kwon's experiences of prison and racism in Japan.

The first performance will be held at Samsung Culture Hall at Chonbuk National University on September 23 and 24.

The musical is scheduled to run in Seoul, Pusan, Japan and the United States.
