Ansan City revealed on April 21 that it had proposed 990,000 square meters of land near Taebu Island as the site for the establishment of the natural history museum and was pushing for its construction with Shihung City and Hwasong district, both located around Shihwa Lake, near the coast.
Ansan Mayor Park Song-kyu said that as the four tidal flats of Shihwa Lake have been designated as the 414th natural monument with the discovery of dinosaur eggs and footprints, Ansan City selected the site as ideal for the construction of the natural history museum.
Park said that a dinosaur theme park would be constructed in Hwasong district and a marine archaeological museum would be built in Shihung. The moves would promote the tourist development of the area. Ansan City has requested national financial support from Kyonggi Province and the government.
