Psychiatrist Pyo Jin-in Hosts 'Beautiful Sex Life'

Every Saturday night, people get together to watch a TV program all about sex. Psychiatrist Pyo Jin-in often hosts the SBS TV program 'Beautiful Sex Life,' which discusses adults' sex lives. Dr. Pyo is the head of the Yonhi Psychiatric Medical Center.

Pyo has appeared on the program as co-commentator with sex education instructor Ku Sung-ae. Pyo provides lucid answers to viewers' questions and humorous commentary on most sex problems.

Many believe that the show's stable 15 percent viewer rate, even though it is aired at midnight, can be attributed to Dr. Pyo's presence.

"I think the public likes me because I'm so well prepared. It takes three or four days to interview all the people slated to appear on each episode," he said.

Pyo says that conducting the interviews for the show is good education for him. He says he is often surprised because women's sex lives are very different than what he was taught in university.

"I used to think that female sexual desire was a mere physical phenomenon. I've discovered, however, that environmental factors play a signficant role in women's sexual desires. For example, I've found that women in their mid-30s have stronger sexual desire than younger women; this is because they have become more informed about sex," he said.

"The women I interview are initially quite shy about discussing their sex lives. After about an hour, however, they become very talkative. Sometimes I am surprise by how positively they discuss this issue," he added laughing.

Dr. Pyo insists that a healthy sex life can only exist if a husband and wife can first speak honestly and openly with one another.
