Monthly Pilot Flight Hours Reduced to 120 From August

Pilot flying hours will decline from the current 180 to 120 per month from August.
The flying hours required to see a pilot promoted to captain will increase from the current 3,000 to 4,000. To become a vice-captain, pilots will need four years flying experience, upped from the current three.
The Ministry of Construction and Transportation announced that it has prepared a string of guidelines to improve aviation safety because seven of the total eight domestic airline accidents which occurred abroad over the 10 years between 1989 and 1998 were shown to have been caused by pilot mistakes.
The guidelines will allow pilots to manipulate other kinds of airplanes after they handle the same type of aircraft for more than two years, and increase the annual training for landing and take-off in rainy and stormy weather to three times from the current two.
The Ministry plans to severely punish airlines which have aviation accidents caused by their airplanes, by increasing the penalty to be imposed from the one billion won next month to 10 billion won around the end of this year.
