Vietnam, Seoul Plan Military Cooperation
Defense Minister Kim Dong-shin and his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Van Tra, signed a memorandum of understanding on defense technology cooperation and military training exchanges during talks Friday in Seoul. It was the first time a Vietnamese defense minister had visited South Korea since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992.
During the talks, Mr. Kim asked for Vietnam's cooperation in helping to defuse tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The two officials agreed to boost ties between their military institutions, considering the fact that cultural and economic exchanges between South Korea and Vietnam are blooming while ex-changes on the military front have remained minuscule.
