[LETTERS to the editor]Reunification through games?
It would be farfetched to suggest that during the next Asian Games, which will held Dec. 1 to 15, 2006 in Doha, Qatar, the following announcement will be made over the public address system: “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Korean Peninsula has now been peacefully reunified.”Yet Shane Berg (letters, JoongAng Daily, Nov. 4, 2005) wrote that “Seoul’s hosting of the ‘86 Asian Games led to the Olympics, ‘02 FIFA World Cup and Busan Asian Games and numerous other world-class events.” Can’t we hope for the eventual reunification of North and South Korea in conjunction with the sporting event of the 21st century, i.e., the Doha Asian Games 2006?
