[NEW RELEASES] Yo-Yo Ma

테스트

The sound of the cello has the special charm of being able to calm my mind. I find the deep, low tones of the instrument soothing. When I was a junior reporter, the best part of the day was the bus ride home, when I’d lose myself in the Baroque music played by the celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Having said that, I’m not exactly thrilled that he has been toeing the experimental edge of classical music lately. But “Yo-Yo Ma x2” provided me with a great opportunity to explore Ma’s works stretching back decades. The first CD features Ma’s 1979 recording of Joseph Haydn’s cello concertos in C major and D major, performed with the English Chamber Orchestra. Ma’s simple, clean and crisp play lends itself well to Haydn’s classical music. In the second CD, Ma plays Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with the New York Philharmonic. Words cannot describe the performance, which completely and utterly moves the heart. While most Ma fans likely already own most of these works, this two-in-one set is a great bargain that captures his best performances. By Ser Myo-ja
