A 71-year-old man with chronic health problems has died after being infected with influenza A(H1N1), raising the flu death toll to 10 in South Korea, health officials said yesterday.
The man, who was diagnosed with the virus on Sept. 16 and had been in the hospital for several days, died of chronic renal failure complicated by high blood pressure, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said.
So far, South Korea has reported over 15,000 type-A flu cases, with about a third of the total tally confirmed over the past week.
Most patients have recovered after being given antiviral medicine, but fears are growing the virus could spread more quickly as the flu season approaches.
