방자전
2일 개봉한 영화 ‘방자전’은 누구나 다 아는 고대소설 ‘춘향전’의 춘향이가 이도령 아닌 방자에게 반했다는 다소 발칙한 상상에서 출발한다. 진짜 주인공은 춘향을 버리고 한양으로 가버린 이몽룡이 아니라 줄곧 곁을 지키며 궂은 일을 무릅쓴 방자였으며, 오늘날 사실과는 전혀 다른 ‘춘향전’이 전해지는 것은 의도적인 왜곡이라는 것이다.내가 한 영작

ⓑ 삽입 → a new movie 범주를 밝힘으로써 내용 파악을 원활하게 함, 문장 처음이므로 제목만으로는 배경지식이 없는 영어권 사람들은 장르를 쉽게 알 수 없음.
ⓒ assumption → proposition assumption은 보통 개연성이 있는 경우의 ‘추측’, ‘가정’을 뜻함, 기존의 것과는 다른 이야기를 ‘제시’하는 것이므로 proposition이 적절.
ⓓ a popular folk tale → the popular Korean folktale 누구나 알 정도로 잘 알려진 이야기이므로 정관사 the가 적절.
올 칸 영화제 개막작이던 영화 ‘로빈 후드’는 영국의 한 변두리 셔우드 숲을 누비던 의적 로빈 후드가 전국의 영주들을 이끌고 국왕을 압박해 영국 헌정의 기초인 대헌장(Magna Carta)을 낳게 한다는, 다소 황당무계한 이야기다. 동화 속 왕자와 공주 이야기를 뚱뚱하고 못생긴 괴물로 바꿔 놓은 ‘슈렉’ 시리즈 4편은 지난주 미국에서 개봉돼 이미 흥행 1억 달러를 넘어섰다(국내는 8월 개봉).

ⓑ of the Cannes International Film Festival this year → at the Cannes International Film Festival earlier this year 행사를 나타낼 때는 at을 씀, 우리말 해석이 ‘~의’가 될 수 있다고 해서 무조건 of를 써서는 안됨.
ⓒ a nonsensical story → on the nonsensical premise 실제 존재했던 이야기를 바탕으로 한 것이 아니므로 story보다는 전제를 뜻하는 premise가 적절.
ⓓ in → on 외곽을 표현할 때는 전치사 on이 쓰임.
