Korea gets two shooting golds at Asiad

GUANGZHOU, China - Korean shooter Lee Dae-myung won the men’s 10-meter air pistol event on Sunday at the Asian Games, becoming the country’s first triple gold medalist.

Lee fired a 685.8 to beat China’s Tan Zongliang, who scored 684.5 points.

Lee entered the final tied at 585 with Tan. The Korean slipped with a 7.9 while Tan took the lead by getting a 9.9. But Lee retook the lead with a sixth-shot score of 10.5 and clinched Korea’s second shooting gold on Sunday.

Earlier, Lee and teammates Jin Jong-oh and Lee Sang-do combined for team gold in the 10-meter air pistol, with a score of 1,746 points. On Saturday, the trio had teamed up for gold in the 50-meter pistol team event, giving Korea its first gold medal at this year’s Asian Games.

In the 10-meter event, Lee Dae-myung paced Korea with 585 points, followed by Jin’s 581 and Lee Sang-do’s 580. The team competition adds up the scores of individual shooters in their qualifying rounds.

For the second straight day, Korean marksmen edged their Chinese counterparts. The Chinese team put up 1,743 points while Japan finished third in the team event at 1,724.
