Loved Australia? Tell your story on new site

The Australian Embassy in Seoul will start a Web site on Jan. 26 that lets locals who have visited or lived in the land Down Under post stories about their experiences in the country.

The Australian and Korean governments designated 2011 “Australia-Korea Year of Friendship” - which will also be the name of the new site -to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The embassy aims to collect at least 300 essays from Koreans who visited, lived or studied in Australia.

One essay will be uploaded onto the Web site daily, officials said.

“We welcome any essays by Koreans that describe experiences in Australia such as our exceptional school system, magnificent scenery or achievements in the workplace,” said Kang Su-jin, an official at the public diplomacy section of the embassy.

“We accept all essays written in Korean or English,” she added, “but English ones will be translated into Korean because most visitors to the site will be Korean.”

Kang added that the embassy thinks “the essays, which describe real stories of life in Australia, could be used to raise public awareness and interest in Koreans about Australia.”

The embassy said people will be able to send their stories after the site launches in January.
