Van Persie livid after referee sends him off against Barca

The Dutch striker recovered from a knee injury to make the starting team as Arsenal looked to defend a 2-1 first-leg lead at the Camp Nou.
But his second yellow card in the 56th minute left the visitors with 10 men, and the Spanish champions scored twice afterward to win 3-1 and 4-3 on aggregate.
Van Persie’s second booking was for kicking the ball away after the whistle had blown, but he labeled referee Massimo Busacca’s decision a “total joke.”
“How can I hear this whistle with 95,000 people jumping up?’’ Van Persie said. “I cannot understand that view from the ref. If there were four, five, six seconds in between, you can make a check [for offside]. One second? It’s a joke.
“He’s been bad all evening, whistling against us. I don’t know why he’s here tonight. We feel betrayed a bit. When it was 1-1 it was all to play for and in my opinion this referee killed the game.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was also angry.
“I just spoke to UEFA people and they are shocked as well,” Wenger said. “You promise a fantastic football match, but what for? How he did it, frankly it’s embarrassing for the game.”
Barcelona dominated the battle for possession by controlling the ball for 68 percent of the game and had 20 shots as opposed to just one for Arsenal.
“Overall I’m convinced we would have won this game,’’ said Wenger, who was reportedly involved in a bust-up with Busacca in the players’ tunnel after the game. “If you play football at a certain level you cannot understand this decision.”
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola felt some sympathy for the English club, even though Wenger said he had the referee to thank for the result.
“I can understand that they are out because of Van Persie. This kind of way to analyze the situation, I can understand,” Guardiola said. “But in the first game many, many things happened.”
Van Persie, who scored in the first leg at Emirates Stadium, recovered in only nine days after Wenger had initially ruled him out for up to a month. He was initially booked in first-half injury time after barging into Daniel Alves, one of five yellow cards shown to the English club compared to zero for Barcelona.
Arsenal was ousted by Barcelona for the second-straight season after bowing out to the Spanish champions in the quarterfinals last year.

아스날 반 페르시, 경고 누적으로 퇴장이 승부의 분수령…
바르셀로나의 홈구장 누 캄프에 선 아스널 선수들은 마치 로프 사이드에 몰린 채 일방적으로 얻어맞는 복싱선수 같았다. 그들은 경기 내내 자기 진영에 틀어박혀 바르셀로나 선수들을 막는 데 급급했다. 어쩌다 볼을 잡아도 강한 압박을 펼친 바르셀로나에 쉽게 볼을 빼앗겼다.
아르센 벵거 아스널 감독은 ‘아름다운 축구’의 신봉자다. 그는 “내 꿈은 그라운드에서 단 5분만이라도 가장 아름다운 축구를 보여주는 것이다”라는 유명한 말을 남겼다.
하지만 9일 유럽챔피언스리그 16강전 2차전에서 바르셀로나와 맞붙은 아스널은 아름다운 축구는커녕 바르셀로나의 공세에 자기 색깔도 잃어버리고 허둥지둥대다 무기마저 내던져버리고 도망치는 초라한 패전병의 모습이었다.
아스널 서포터스는 후반 11분 논란의 여지가 있는 로빈 판 페르시의 퇴장이 승부의 분수령이 됐다며 분개할지도 모른다.
상대의 자책골에 편승해 1-1로 맞서던 아스널은 판 페르시 퇴장 이후 2골을 내주며 1-3으로 졌고, 결국 1, 2차전 합계 3-4로 탈락했다. 리오넬 메시가 2골을 넣으며 바르셀로나의 8강 진출에 앞장섰다.
판 페르시는 오프사이드 휘슬이 울린 뒤 쓸데없는 슈팅을 날리다 두 번째 경고를 받았다. 판 페르시는 “주심이 농담하는 줄 알았다”며 판정을 이해할 수 없다고 억울함을 호소했지만 경고의 빌미를 준 어리석은 행동이었음은 분명하다.
아스널은 이날 바르셀로나가 19개의 슈팅을 날리는 동안 단 1개의 슈팅도 연결하지 못했다. 바르셀로나 골키퍼는 90분 내내 편안히 자기편 선수들이 아스널을 괴롭히는 것을 구경했다.
골문을 향하든, 아니면 골문을 벗어나든 슈팅 1개도 날리지 못하는 팀은 승리할 수 없다. 아스널은 패스 성공횟수에서도 199-738로 3배 이상 차가 났다.
‘공격축구’ ‘패싱축구’ ‘아름다운 축구’의 상징 아스널이 슈팅 1개도 날리지 못한 것은 지난 시즌 바르셀로나 원정에서 1-4로 대패한 것보다도 더 충격적인 결과다.
아스널의 이해할 수 없는 경기 운영은 상당 부분 벵거 감독에게 책임을 물을 수밖에 없다.
벵거 감독은 지난 시즌 바르셀로나를 무너뜨렸던 조제 무리뉴 인터 밀란 감독의 극단적인 수비전술을 염두에 두었을 것이다. 무리뉴 감독은 수비의 미학이라도 보였지만 벵거 감독은 그마저도 보이지 못했다.
무리뉴 감독은 살을 내주고 상대의 뼈를 얻겠다는 자신의 구상대로 승부에서 이기며 챔피언스리그 우승을 차지하는 전공이라도 세웠지만 벵거 감독은 실리도, 명분도, 철학도 잃어버렸다.
1998년과 2002년, 2004년에 세 차례 리그 우승을 차지하며 아스널 전성기를 이끌었던 벵거 감독은 2005년 FA컵 우승 이후 우승컵을 들어올리지 못했다.
벵거 감독은 이번 바르셀로나전에서 체면도, 자신이 그토록 고수하던 ‘아름다운 축구’의 철학도 내팽개치고 승리에 모든 것을 걸었지만 그의 승부수는 통하지 않았다. 애당초 잠그는 축구는 아스널이 잘할 수 있는 것이 아니었다. 아스널은 공격의 팀이지 수비의 팀이 아니었다.
영국 언론은 이 경기를 이렇게 촌평했다. “이날 밤 벵거가 자랑하던 철학이 무단이탈했다.”
한편 우크라이나 샤흐타르 도네츠크도 이탈리아 강호 AS로마를 3-0으로 완파하고 2연승으로 8강에 오르며 돌풍을 이어갔다.
