MB to attend summit with Wen and Kan

President Lee Myung-bak will visit Tokyo next month to attend a trilateral summit with Japanese and Chinese leaders and discuss regional cooperation in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, the Blue House said yesterday.

“Lee is scheduled to attend a trilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on May 21 and 22 in Tokyo, Japan,” the Blue House said. The meeting is fourth of its kind.

The three leaders will review regional cooperation and share views on Northeast Asian issues. Cooperative efforts to cope with disasters and nuclear energy safety will be discussed at the meeting, the Blue House said.

The three countries have been holding the annual trilateral meetings since 2008.

한ㆍ일ㆍ중 정상회의 내달 21일 도쿄 개최

한국, 일본, 중국간 제4차 3국 정상회담이 다음달 21~22일 일본 도쿄(東京)에서 열린다.

이명박 대통령과 간 나오토(菅直人) 일본 총리, 중국 원자바오(溫家寶) 총리는 이번 정상회의에서 동일본 대지진을 계기로 3국간 재난 방지 및 원자력 안전 협력을 강화하는 방안을 집중 논의한다.

또 북한 핵 문제를 포함한 동북아 정세를 논의하는 한편 그동안 3국 협력의 성과를 평가하고 향후 발전방안을 모색할 예정이다.

한ㆍ일ㆍ중 정상회의는 과거에는 대규모 국제회의 기간에 여는 것이 관례였으나 지난 2008년 12월 일본 후쿠오카(福岡) 회의부터 별도로 개최하기 시작했다.

2차 회의는 2009년 10월 중국 베이징(北京)에서, 3차 회의는 지난해 5월 한국 제주도에서 열렸다.
