We suggested that our government guide the visiting Japanese lawmakers to Dokdo/ 우리는 한국정부가 일본 의원의 방문을 독도까지 안내하라고 제안했다/ because their visit there would require permission from Ulleung authorities/ 왜냐하면 그들이 방문하기 위해서는 울릉도 당국의 허가가 있어야 하기 때문이다/ and that would amount to an admission of the islets as our territory./ 그리고 그것은 우리의 영토인 섬에 들어가는 것을 의미하기 때문이다/ Our government did not have to make a fuss over their planned visit to Ulleung Island/ 우리 정부는 일본 의원의 계획된 울릉도 방문에 대해 호들갑을 떨 필요가 없다/ because we cannot avert their plans to visit the islets./ 왜냐하면 그 섬을 방문하겠다는 그들의 계획을 막을 수는 없기 때문이다/ Our emotional overreaction will only backfire./ 우리의 감정적 과잉대응은 역효과만 낳을 것이다/
A cold wind will blow through the two countries./ 두 나라 사이에 찬바람이 불 것이다/ But populist reactions from the political community will not be good for our national interests./ 그러나 정치권의 대중영합주의자와 같은 반응은 우리 국익을 위해서 바람직하지 않다/ The government must approach the issue calmly and firmly,/ 정부는 이 문제에 차분하면서도 단호하게 접근해야 한다/ including some measures to prove our effective control of Dokdo./ 독도에 대한 실효지배를 증명하는 조치를 취하면서/
